I think the problem might be that facial expression. It appears deranged.

I had never drawn this character before. I thought I would try a warm, summer setting, but things went wrong.
At first there was just the one tree stump in the front with grass and vaguely implied trees behind, but I thought "that is kind of peculiar, to be sitting on a severed tree and smiling while other trees look on." So I added more tree stumps and changed the mallet-thing into an axe. Then the picture made more sense. The red flannel shirt finally solved my question of what attire worked best.
My personal philosophy, and I hope I will not have to say it again, is to never trust anybody with pink hair.
